improving together: Information management

Information management

Information Management –  maintains a set of inter-related lists that are used to index and cross-reference each piece of information making it possible to share information meaningfully between local authorities and for you to benchmark against others.

All lists and cross-references between them are made freely available so that you can use them within your council and so that suppliers (e.g. of CMS and CRM systems) can use them.

At the heart of esd-toolkit is the services list (LGSL) defining every service that might be delivered by a local authority.  Information gathered nationally for each service is made available to you through esd-toolkit.  Other lists relate to LGSL to show you things such as:

  • a good browse structure for your authority's website covering all services
  • how records might be kept within your EDRMS
  • segmentations of citizens at whom services are aimed
  • National Indicators pertinent to each service

The lists allow different officers to view the same information in different ways.  For example esd-toolkit's local tree view presents services according to your own departmental structure, where as the Local Government Navigation List (LGNL) provides a more citizen orientated approach.
